Pet Circle and PetRescue have joined forces to address the challenges faced by large dogs in finding forever homes. Recent data from PetRescue indicates that larger dogs typically wait longer for adoption and receive fewer enquiries compared to smaller breeds. With over 1,000 large dogs currently up for adoption, the collaboration aims to facilitate the rehoming of at least 100 large dogs through a national campaign named ‘Looking for Love.’
The initiative, spearheaded by online pet supplies retailer Pet Circle in Australia, seeks to dispel misconceptions about caring for large dogs. According to Head Vet Teagan Lever, these dogs are often misunderstood and can be just as loving and loyal as their smaller counterparts. The campaign offers incentives such as $100 vouchers to the first 200 adopters of large dogs through PetRescue during a specified period.
Patima Tantiprasut, Managing Director and CEO at PetRescue, emphasizes the importance of looking beyond a dog’s size and focusing on their individual personalities. Tantiprasut highlights the disparity in adoption rates between large and small dogs, stressing the need to create more awareness and interest in rehoming larger breeds. The collaboration with Pet Circle aims to give these big dogs the visibility and opportunity they deserve.
Chloe, a resident at the Shoalhaven Animal Shelter for over 650 days, is just one example of the many large dogs waiting for their forever homes. The ‘Looking for Love’ campaign aims to match these dogs with families who can provide them with the love and care they need.
Large dogs, often labeled as more challenging to care for, are in fact, capable of forming deep bonds with their human companions. By promoting the adoption of large dogs, Pet Circle and PetRescue aim to break stereotypes and encourage potential pet owners to consider the unique qualities and affectionate nature of these animals.
The campaign underscores the significance of individual compatibility over appearance when choosing a pet. Through collaborations like this, the pet adoption process can be streamlined, and more large dogs can find loving homes where they can thrive.
As the campaign gains momentum, the hope is to inspire more people to open their hearts and homes to large dogs in need of a second chance. By shedding light on these overlooked but deserving animals, Pet Circle and PetRescue are paving the way for a brighter future for many large dogs across Australia.
