An investigation is ongoing in Stroud, Oklahoma, as authorities have shut down an alleged puppy mill named Add Love Pets L.L.C. More than 400 dogs were rescued from the deplorable conditions at the storefront facility following a search and seizure by local law enforcement and animal rescue organizations.
The distressing situation came to light after concerned residents and rescue groups raised alarms, prompting swift action from both local and state authorities. Amber Ridenour, the Executive Director of Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue, expressed the heart-wrenching scene, describing the dogs crammed into small spaces, living amidst their waste, and covered in filth.
Gina Gardner, President of the Humane Society of Tulsa, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the unsafe and unsanitary living conditions endured by the animals. The overpowering stench and hazardous ammonia levels inside the facility painted a grim picture of neglect and cruelty.
Despite the shocking state of affairs, the facility had passed an inspection by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry just months prior. The department’s response to the situation remains pending as inquiries are made into the inspection process and findings.
Clint Gaylord, Chief of Police for the Stroud Police Department, highlighted the ongoing investigation and the potential for criminal charges once all information is gathered. Each rescued dog was carefully assessed for medical and behavioral needs, with rescue organizations like Oklahoma Westie Rescue mobilizing to provide immediate care and support.
The Humane Society of Tulsa is actively pursuing custody of the rescued dogs, although the breeder is currently resisting relinquishing legal rights. The organization has called for public assistance through donations and volunteer efforts to aid in the care and rehabilitation of the rescued animals.
Authorities have taken swift action, arresting the owner of the facility, who is awaiting booking at the Lincoln County Jail. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed pending the formal filing of the arrest affidavit.
The collaborative efforts of concerned citizens, rescue groups, and law enforcement have been instrumental in rescuing these animals from a life of suffering and neglect. The community’s response to this crisis underscores the importance of vigilance and advocacy for animal welfare.
As the investigation unfolds and efforts continue to secure the well-being of the rescued dogs, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced in combating animal cruelty and the critical role of public awareness and intervention in safeguarding vulnerable animals.
